AQM

AQM, Active Queue Management

In simple terms, when an internet connection get's maxed out your data falls into ugly long queues that make your latency get erratic and your internet experience suffers.

Active Queue Management is a term to describe controlling the internet speed by setting speed limits slightly below your internet speed so that those long queues can be managed and made more efficient. There are multiple ways to accomplish this, so it's not a strict definition of how, just an industry jargon to describe it at a high level.

AQM is the best way a consumer can improve their internet connect if they experience buffer bloat. Some providers are starting to deploy AQM products for all of their customers and if they have, consumers should pass buffer bloat tests.
